Do the FSCS pay out on ppi claims?

Options
Sorry to be re-posting last nights post, but hoping it might get seen by a few more posters :) I was just about to reclaim PPI from Dolphin bathrooms (waiting on some paperwork from GE Money which doesn't seem to be forthcoming!!). I believe the company was in default so it had been suggested that I contact the FSCS about PPI anyway. So my questions are this:

1. Now that dolphin has well and truly gone bust, do I send my PPI claim straight to the FSCS, or should I be sending it to another company/agency first, to show to the FSCS that I'm getting no joy with my claim?
2. How likely is it that the FSCS will pay out on a genuine PPI claim?
3. Does anyone have any experience of reclaiming PPI from the FSCS and do you have any useful info/experiences that could help me?

Thanks

    Hello there

Sorry for the delay in posting, and hopefully others will post up as well, but what year did you take out the finance?
(This is just to make sure that the FSCS can deal with your case and the company registered with them).

So basically I would therefore contact the FSCS first, ask if the business are listed with them, if so then arrange a claim form.

In my experience of another company going into default, the refund was awarded directly to me, but this is because the loan was settled.

There are many on here who have made successful claims through the FSCS, so depending on your circumstances really, but failing that if they are unable to deal with your case, contact the FOS anyway and they may advice an appropriate direction to take on this one.

    Good luck.

Please also check out the thread (although a long one) that I posted in the sticky thread of the area of companies in default - FSCS).
    Hope this also helps.

Cheers for that Di. The loan was taken out 5 years ago and although the loan & insurance was with GE money, it was Dolphin bathrooms who sold it to me. It was a very clear case of mis-selling (I think so anyway!). I was told that I wouldn't be able to have the loan without it. And it was completely superfluous to requirements as I already had an income protection plan with my bank and my work pays full pay for 12 months when off due to ill health.

I'll get in touch with the FSCS and take it from there.

Hi, sorry for coming out of the blue with my question but did you ever manage to claim and, if so, where? I just tried claiming through the FSCS but got the following message:

"Based on the policy and advice dates that you’ve provided, we can’t accept your application as the firm you are claiming against wasn’t authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority at the time you conducted business with them.
You may wish to speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau to discuss your options."

Our policy was missold to us by Dolphin Bathrooms in 2005. I have the paperwork.

They last posted 8 years ago. I don't think they're coming back.
What was the date in 2005? Because after January they should be regulated.

It isnt the start date of the policy that matters but the date the application signed. So, if the application was signed in say Dec 2004 but didnt start until March 2005, then it would not be regulated. If the application was signed after 15th Jan 2005 then the firm should have been regulated and the FSCS would cover it.

If the firm were dodgy and acted unregulated (which some did for a short period as they left it late to get authorised) then you are not covered by the FSCS.

Thank you for your interest :) Yes I did realise that it was a very old post but I thought I'd give it a try just in case :)
Dolphin Bathrooms came by and got us to sign the paperwork on 31.3.2005. We started paying GE Money in May. I put these dates in the FSCS webpage but I got the answer which I copied so I guess that we cannot claim.

Dolphin Bathrooms because authorised on 24th April 2006. So, if they were selling prior to that date, they were doing so unlawfully.

They must have done. We did have a bad feeling about them but at least they did the job - relatively well (although far too expensive).

You could try complaining to GE Money, it's a shot in the dark but nothing to lose.
