    Thank you fpr all your replies! the door in question is solid oak door if that makes any difference? Good thinking about looking on youtube i will take a look at some of their videos later :) So the best thing to use is a sw then yeh?

    you would still need a plain after the saw .
    unless you were extremely good with a DA sander

    and most "so-called" solid oak doors these days are not what it seems, they are lots of chunks of wood glued together in strips ..then veneered with a paper thin veneer....some dont have veneer and you can see the strips glued together on the surface .so take extreme caution !
