So annoyed with buyer

Sent an item 22 Nov and buyer informed me after about two weeks that it hadn't arrived. Went through the usual 'check with your collection office to see if they have it' routine to which she replied she had and there was nothing there. Waited until 15 working days were up and I posted a replacement straight away so she would have it for Christmas and was going to file a claim for the loss in the new year.

Well, guess what turned up today? The parcel with a sticker on it saying it had not been collected  I am fuming as it was a toy very much linked with Christmas 2006 and I haven't a hope of getting much for it now.

Should I just let it go or contact the buyer and have a moan??? I feel annoyed that I am out of pocket because I could have sold the replacement last week for good money, plus I've paid out for a 2nd lot of P&P. She's left good feedback for me but I haven't left feedback yet.

Loopy I had a buyer return an item (brand new) yesterday (he changed his mind) and instead of putting it in a bag just stuck an address label and stamp on the box and then wrote fragile all over and posted it back normal mail (value £150).

I was seriosly hacked off...in the end I only deducted £15 from his refund and I reckon it will cost me double that when I come to resell.

It is the season of goodwill don't spoil your Christmas and just forget it.

I have had a similar experience only my original parcel hasn't come back! if your buyer wanted this for xmas then surely she would have double and triple checked her p.o.depot, maybe they are just useless like my depot who tried to deliver me something and then sent it to a post office 5 miles away to be held for collection without telling me! I would bill her for the extra p&p though, as you were good enough to send out a replacement so fast. I agree that it is completely infuriating though because things like this are so out of your hands.

Maybe the postman didnt bother or forgot to post a note saying come and collect it.

I did tell her to check to see if anything was waiting at the collection office. She assured me she had done so and they said there was nothing there

Still fuming about it this morning. I am the sort of seller who gets all wound up when things go wrong and to think I had sleepless nights over this when it was just sitting there waiting for her to collect it

To be fair, that might be the collection office rather than the buyer - my local one absolutely REFUSES to believe that there's something there for you if you've not had a card, even to the point of saying they won't check for you (though if they file by reference number rather than street, I can see their point too).

  • As others have mentioned, it might be the PO who've messed up, rather than the customer. I can understand your anger. At least if the package were still "Lost", you'd have been able to reclaim from Royall Mail (assuming you have proof of posting), instead of being left considerably out of pocket because of someone else's mistake.
Btw, was the parcel returned Special Delivery? I got one recently when something similar happened, and the RM returned the item by SPecial Delivery. I assume this is so they have a record of it to prevent the sender from claiming for "lost" items which have actually been returned to them. Luckily, mine was not a particularly seasonal item, though it had sold for more than expected and probably wouldn't do quite so so well if relisted. I didn't have a duplicate item to send in its place, so I'll now have to ask the customer if they want to pay postage again to have it sent back out. Knowing my luck, they'll ask for a refund instead.

Yesm i still think it could be the Post Office & not sellers fault as you cant just ring and say do i have a parcel?? I have learnt from mine that it is important what the postman has ticked on the card as they are all filed in different places.
    So id let buyer off.

My OH had a card left for a recorded pachage, card stated leave for 24hrs, which we did, went to Sorting Office, to be told, item is not there.

I contacted my ex, who's a postie, and asked if he could get it for me or at least look into it.

Half hour later, he was at my door with the package. I asked why and how come he got it and we couldnt.? The SO was mega busy that morning, and the guy who was on the desk, accidently knocked it off the shelf, (it fell behind some other parcels) and didn't find till we left the building.

I was so  but there was nothing I could have done about it without getting my ex in trouble for bringing it home for me.

Its not always the customer's fault, and after this experience ( and 1 previously pretty similar) e.g the postie never attempting to deliver an item in the 1st place and not leaving a card, my item was returned to sender.

Give the cust benefit of the doubt 1st, this time of year, items do go missing, even if they are recorded or special del.

i would email her see what she says - its very unfair u should suffer the loss- also make a complaint to the RM

in my experience the buyers hardly ever check with the delivery office as i have had to chase up several missing packages that have been sitting waiting to be collected - buyers always say no card was left - royal mail customer services will usually put u through to the delivery office ur package is at so u can confirm with them its there - why do people not want to collect stuff theyve bought

and when ive been to the delivery office to collect a parcel they have had to look in several places before they have found it - from what i can tell they seem to file them under street if they have been there a while as there are lots of pigeon holes with street names and letters/packages in behind the desk at my DO - but if they have just come in off the round they seem to be stacked up on the desk
 Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j
