But 1-2 hours still doesn't justify £125 charge!! Thats £62.50 an hour just for them to give you the privilege of paying for their phone service!!! I think what I'm trying to say is that they come across as though we should count ourselves lucky they're letting us connect up to them when it should be the other way round. If everyone left BT tomorrow, I bet they'd soon get rid of all profit making charges..........until they had a large customer base again of course.

Bottom line IMO, there's no excuse for charging people £200 for a phone line.

A garage costs c£50/an hour, so a Telecoms expert would be around about the same charge.

At the end of the day they need to cover the costs of having the engineer install the line, and whilst I think £75 would be a more reasonable figure, they've clearly set it to reflect the work done. If they did free connections, they'd have to recoup the costs elsewhere - probably through higher line rental.

If you weren't happy with the charge, couldn't you have plumped for cable? Do they still do free installation?

I think this thread has now arrived HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
