What to do What to do...

We are currently a dual fuel customer with BG on their standard tarriff.
A quick search through simply switch.com shows that based on out surrent DD to BG, we would save £76 a year (7%) by moving to NPower online.
Due to the prospect of the looming price rises I also looked at capped deals, and the best there is a £37 saving to be had with NPower Go Fix 6, but I cant see how long thats fixed for.
The 3rd option however is to go with one of the Energy Smart tarriffs with BG, but I would assume they will increase in price in the near future?

Quite simply, I know i need to do SOMETHING, but no idea what!

Would be very welcoming of any suggestions or advice from the knowledgeable forumites!

Thank you

    And a brief update:
With BG, we can also sign up to EnergyExtra50 which affords us some cover on our recently installed central heating.
The best tarriff I can see with that would be Remaining on standard rates though, and the energysmart is a 'projected saving'

    GoFix6 is fixed to 31/7/12.

All the big 6 (except SP) are likely to increase their variable rates shortly.
It's up to you if you want to pay a premium now to fix against future rises, no one knows. Essentially you're buying insurance/peace of mind, not necessarily a cheaper tariff.

Cheapest BG tariff is websaver 12 (no energysmart) or, if you want energysmart then it's the onlinesaver 4 - both cheaper than standard but not fixed prices. You can have the energyextra 50 with either of those

Npower GF6 is fixed until July 31st, 2012.
I've gone with that one. It's a sort of cover all bases choice for me. Everything is hypothetical at the mo but not many people see prices coming down! So, if they go up, I'm covered for a year. If they don't, it's not much more expensive than the best non-fixed tariff.
Just like banking/mortgages/interest rates, there don't seem to be many people, if any, who can say what is going to happen from one month to the next.....any longer fix just doesn't sit well with me.
Don't let MSE's 'FIX NOW CAPT MAINWARING!!!!!!!' attitude scare you.
Think through what's best for you and will leave you sleep ok at night!

I think its fair to say that it does a bit, but I reckon its justified!
Im torn between getting the absolute cheapest deal available at the minute which seems to be with BG, then hoping that the inevitable rise in price is LESS than the amount ill be saving.
Or, sort a fixed rate deal which will mean changing supplier (something im not the biggest fan of, not sure why!) and then perversely hoping for a big hike that I avoid!
Because weve only recently (8 weeks ish) got gas central heating installed, our usage is likely to be fluctuating from predominantly elec usage to probably mostly gas usage, so will that have any bearing on what will be the best thing to do?
