Hi,
At last we exchanged yesterday  and 12th January is the completion date.
Shall I call the banks now and change my address or should I wait until I move in?
Thanks
Bill

Buy a lot of 2nd class stamps and write a to all institutions/organisations stating from 12th January what your new address is. If you do this now by the time the date comes around a lot of them will have changed your address. I wouldn't phone them up because lots of organisations including banks are particularly useless if things are not in written form and won't/can't take verbal instruction.
Also set up a royal mail redirection to start on the date you move.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

write to everone now, it takes an age for them to act. also arrange the royal mail direction in plenty of time.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I had my mail redirected for 1 year. As soon as we moved in, I rang all the banks car insurance, etc, with new address, and did'nt have any problems with any of them. We've been here 9 months and the only redirected mail we get is junk.0

That is the best way to approach it. However, start with the Royal Mail Redirection Service and ensure that you tick the correct boxes to stop them passing your details on for marketing purposes. Next get onto the Mail Preference Service and get your new address registered with them. If you have your new telephone number include that to stop the double glazing calls etc. Next get on the electoral roll if you are moving to a new local council, but ensure you ae on the "edited" version to again stop junk mail. Then when you move into your new home you start sending your change of address to the banks etc.,olly300 wrote:Buy a lot of 2nd class stamps and write a to all institutions/organisations stating from 12th January what your new address is. A lot of companies will allow you to COA online and will send emails back to acknowledge the COA request.
This IMO is better than sending a letter or phoning as you have some form of evidence that you have informed the company.
Off top of my head I think HSBC you can do it from the online banking bit, RAC, some of the energy suppliers.
Its a good idea to sit down and write a list, you will be astonished how many there are including if you have tesco club cards, co-op, nectar etc.0
