Sounds like they are asking if they can have a discount if they pay by bank transfer rather than paypal. I only accept paypal in GBP from overseas buyers and this is always put in my auction description.

I'm sure someone who has more experience of other types of payment from overseas will offer an opinion.

He wants to pay by direct bank transfer - Swift, IBAN and BIC are your banking codes for international transfers as well as your sort code and account number - you will need to get all this from your bank.

He may be asking for a discount paying this way, but that may be a lost in translation bit.

It looks to me like he may want to pay by bank transfer if he is asking for the IBAN and BIC code. These can usually be found on you bank statement (well they are on our Abbey one) It looks like he also wants a discount to pay this way.

If he does pay this way make sure he pay's in GBP's or you could be charged to exchange it! Otherwise it's like any other bank transfer and free but can take upto 5-7 working days.

I would think its your choice whether you wish to except payment in this way.
  • thanks for the info peeps......

i have never done this bank transfer before.....

is it safe to give bank details over..? ...

also is it safe.....or could he reverse the payment after its gone through.....

also do they normally ask for discount if they pay this way ? ..as to be honest its not for a great deal of money....its around the £10. mark.....so i think personally its a bit cheeky.....or is he expecting me to discount the fee i would have been charged by paypal ?

I can't emphasise the below points strongly enough. I am aware it contradicts some of the above information.

In order that neither buyer nor seller has to pay fees on a bank transfer from Europe, the following must apply:

    - Transfer must be in EUROs (yes, really)
    - Buyer must select SHARED CHARGES. Don't panic - there won't be any charges, it's just the way it should be done.

There will be a token conversion fee, but no expensive charges... and you won't lose as much as you would with a paypal payment.

There is a slim chance that you bank with one of the evil few who DO actually charge a fee. If you can post your bank I can try to find out if yours is safe or not!

Don't take my word for it: this guy is the owner of Auctionchex and he knows his stuff.

Probably because in the euro zone people love bank transfers, and don't use paypal as much as we do.

The major bonus to you is that there is no possibility of a chargeback after 24 hours, plus no fees!
