This has been reported many times on this forum about the dangers of the wiring on the left hand side door fracturing and the live wire grounding on the metal bracket making the fridge live. I like many others had the fridge freezer pack up last week. I then phoned hotpoint who sold me a new policy at £14.99 per month to guarantee repairs on this model for a year. What they failed to tell me was that this model FF4DX had a dangerous design fault and also that they had not done a product recall. I was not happy as I had a five year replacement parrts guarantee along with everyone else. They did eventually offer me a free replacement door. On reading many sites especially this forum site and Unbeatable I decided to cancel this as the repair seldom is successful and other components may have been burnt. I contacted Consumer Direct and was advised to speak to the supplier Dixon's. I was disappointed that they failed to admit that this had been a problem yet a lady assistant immediately advised from a siste group Currys that this was a problem. The team at Dixons had asked me if I was an electrician and having had an electric shock and seen the door sparking suggested that I getr an engineers report? Have told him that you do not need to be an electrician to see the danger he changed his mind. There are 2 laws that apply to this the Consumer and Supply law 1979 and the Consumer Safety law 1987. One refers to SAD Fart and the other to the safety of the product supplied.
In both cases if proven you can request your money back not a repair or a replacement. I am disabled person who has waited over a week and with this heat do not have a replacement fridge. I have had to pay for a cool box for my insulin and milk/butter. To date my losses are £90.46 for fridge goods. I managed to save the meat as I had an old freezer. Shame on Dixon's for pretending not to know the dangers involved. Shame on Hotpoint for not providing a recall as I went to Comet on Wednesday and found the same model for sale on the shop floor. Guess what this model was reduced as a clearout item and had the frayed electric cable due to people opening the door regularly and it had not left the shop floor and had never been plugged in. This could have been avoided so Comet stores everywhere, Dixons and Curriy's contact Hotpoint immediately on
08709 066066 Hotpoint Help Desk as you cannot sell this product if you have the post April 2009 model without the redesign bracket fitted. I just want my money back and a new fridge freezer. To treat people like this is intolerable. People with a weak heart, pregnant women and young children be careful. Also this product has blown fuses and electric boxes as a result.

Contact Hotpoint direct.
Tell them there's a design fault and you want a replacement. It's not a cosmic coincidence that the fridge wears out at the same point so quiclky in so many cases. Ask yourself who in their right mind would expect a £x00s white goods item to last just over a year and find that reasonable.
That's right- the answer's nobody and certainly not you or I.
It sounds like they have a whole department dealing with it (don't even think about it getting it repaired).
Mention you've read up on the web about it (do look it up and find out what other people have found). When I first bought it the web was full of rave reviews- when it went bang the web was full of sob stories like mine!
True the retailer should be your first port of call - but look who you bought it from.
And avoid them in the future :mad:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
After customer services not taking things seriously and the recent Beko scare. We had to write an official letter. Dixons have now come up trumps and will be replacing our unit. The Hotpoint won on style and Brand name but losy due to a serious design fault. I wonder how many people have had to pay for things which were not their fault.:j0

Well done - might be helpful if you could put any tips on how you got Dixons to cough up here on the site as we're not the only ones who're affected by this :TThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
