It would help if you were to say which version of Windows you have.
It sounds as though your hiberfil.sys is corrupted. If you can get to a command prompt, it may help to follow the instructions here to disable hibernation and then delete the hibernation file. You will lose any data not saved at the time when the laptop went into hibernation state.0 -
Sorry...Its windows 7, dell inspiron
On the startup repair problem list, it lists problem signature corrupt registry and autofailover0 -
In the startup repair menu do you have an option for System Restore?604!0

Press f8 (I think during boot to get the Boot menu)
Select "Safe mode"
Wait for the desktop to come up them open explorer
go to c:/
and delete "htberfil.sys"
then reboot
See if that fixes it.Laters

System restore option says no restore points created.
Can't press F8 during boot becuase it doesn't really boot, it just goes straight to the system repair screen0 -
Try tapping F8 just after you press the power button, sometimes it can be F5
If that gives you options, choose last known good configuration or safe mode with networking0 -

Ok, got there and tried both those options, but they both take me back to the startup repair screen again.

Can you boot from a recovery CD? The one you get from Dell might work, else download a Linux boot disk and boot into that. If nothing else oyu'd be able to get the data off your machine with a linux boot disk.0

When you get the System Recovery Options menu, select Command Prompt. When the black window opens up type in sfc /scannow then enter.604!0
