This affordability argument is a bit of a red herring by the Condems keeping in mind they are thinking about gifting the British public all of Llloyds shares.

I'd far rather they sold them all to private investors and gave me a tax refund! ;)

Well they could certainly possibly pay off a whole load of pension deficits if they wanted & have some serious change left over. Perhaps even enough to fund some more Indian space missions.

Well I wholeheartedly think that money spent on development is essential (despite all the flaws, accusations of corruption and p***-poor procurement ;))

The fact of the matter is that our quality of life in the UK (for even the poorest members of society) is markedly superior to that of someone living in an Indian slum.

But I definitely think that our government needs to exert far more pressure on allies to do their own work - India does have a growing middle class, a rapid growth in millionaires and plenty of capacity to resolve many of their own problems.

after news of these 15,000 losing their jobs I definitely support the union strikes for more pay and better pensions.

filthy scum public sector. greedy grasping filth. you don't like being a teacher - QUIT and work for Lloyds. I didn't think so.

About time unions were banned. they are simply trouble making non entities from a by gone age who are no longer needed.

  • - Average public sector worker earns 24% more than average private sector worker
    - Adjusted for pensions, this equates to 43% more
    - These differentials are consistent whether measuring mean, mode or median, or looking at annual salaries or hourly rates.
    - In 2010 public sector pay rose on average 3.5%, private sector by 0.6%
    - The group of public sector workers who have gained the most relative to the private sector over the last 10 years are those on the lowest incomes. Looking at the bottom 30% of earners nationally, public sector now earns a 30% premium versus a 10% discount in 2003.
