EDF Nightmare!!!!

I have been with EDF a couple of years and always pay via DD. I had problems with my bank account being cloned in May so my account was cloned and my DD didnt go out, and could not pay that months payment. I sent emails and and even a letter by recorded delivery and had no response. I am working full time so it is hard to contact them during the day and in the evenings my time is taken up with two children. I finally got hold of someone in the company who reset up the Direct Debit and advised i could catch up the missed payment over time paying online. I have now received a bill stating i owe £650.00!!!!! There is 2 adults in our house and 2 children, so we are out during the day and only home in the evenings and weekends, so i cant understand how this is. I was paying £90.00 for both, and have increased the DD to £120.00 a month. I am getting very distressed over this, also i get paid on the 24th of each month and the letter states they will take £120.00 on the 7th Julyand another on the 24th of July, and they did not advise me of this and i have not budgeted for this. This morning i have received a letter stating i cannot pay via direct debit and need to call them to arrange other means of payment. Help!!! I dont know what to do

First thing you need to do is take a current reading and submit it (or do your own calculations) to see exactly what you owe, your DD may be based on estimated readings.
You can't have built £650 arrears since May-was your account in arrears before then? Could be that your DD was way too low and what you have received now is a big catch up bill.
Your latest bill should tell you all this info-have you checked it against your current readings? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
many thanks, I transferred to them a couple of years ago as they where offering a special rate. I was with Scottish Power before and had no problems, also in credit in the summer which paid off the winters. I have never been advised i was not paying enough and i am in total shock. If i get a meter reading when i get home and read it again tomorrow at the same time, will that let me know approx how much i am using?0

Not really, a 24 hour period does not give an average.
As I said, your bill wil tell you what it's based on, and whether you have arrears. What is more relevant is what you have used during that 90 day billing period, and what is your annual kWh consumption. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
