We were in Boston USA once on holiday.
Like dumb tourists we were reading a map cos we were lost.
Some chap asked where we looking for and then he walked us all the way there.........
Can you imagine that in London!?
Yes, I have had similar things happen to me in London. I have got lost a couple of times and people have gone out of their way to help. I think Londoners look cold and grumpy on the surface, but it's different if you actually approach someone and ask for help.0 -

Yes I've had that too, not in London but in other British places. I think it's easy just to assume everyone is out to get you and think the worst. Remember if you don't ask, it's your fault they don't help you, not theirs!
There are plenty of nice people in the world, of course there are nasty ones but on the whole, I think most people do want to help.0 -
never seen this, not sure if i know someone who has.. but i think a reason for not stopping is the pretend accident.
Or this could just be one of those urban myth things.
Babyseat on the side of the road, as the story goes you stop to see to baby someone jumps out of bushes mug you and takes your car...
there are variations on this.0 -

I was in Essex the other day and standing on the pavement trying to get my bearings in the A-Z. A friendly chap asked if I needed help. Turns out I was standing right in front of the street that I was looking for - felt like a right idiot. But thankful for the help anyway!
I was in North London going to view a car and had just stepped off the tube and was standing in a residential road - again trying to locate where I was in the A-Z. Friendly local resident was getting into his car and asked if I needed help. The guy then offered me and my father a lift to the street that I was looking for.
Really restored my faith in humanity!
PS - I'm not a six foot tall busty blond either if that makes a difference. :rotfl: I'm a bloke!Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Well done OP, I hope the injured cyclist was OK.
I remember back to my teenage years, I had just passed my driving test and was going along the local motorway to return some excess decorating gear to B&Q.
There was a pretty strong burning smell, not sure if it was outside the car or what so I pulled over pretty scared, and couldn't even open the bonnet for the heat coming off the car!
Frantically tried to wave down passing cars, anyone, but no one took any notice.
Ran like a maniac to the nearest town at the junction, which I later found out was actually 3 miles down the road but when you are that afraid you can do crazy things like run for three miles straight
Staff from the hotel I came to were very nice, filled up a big plastic jug of water for me and one of the bar staff offered to drive me back down to the car and see if he could help.
Turns out the head gasket had blown but I got such a fright, I was very grateful for their help. Seeing the nicer side of people is always a pleasure.0
