Call the Land Registry. It's not hard to do.
Though if there is a mortgage on the property you'll need the permission of the lender as the mortgage names must match the owners.0 -
Are the proceeds of the joint house being used to pay of the mortgage or any work that is being done on the sole house ?
If they are then I would want to be put on the deeds of the house you are keeping, if they aren't then I can understand your partner not wanting this if you haven't made any contribution financially to their house.
You can be put on the deeds and yes it will cost to have a solicitor do it, it depends on what you call a lot of money.0 -

sorry i didn't make it very clear did i. Yes the money from our old house will pay off the morgage on the home we are now living in, plus enough to do the property up.
Ulfar it has nothing to do with my partner not wanting my name on the deed's:), No i havn't put real money into the property just a lot of blood sweat and tear's:D. lol He earn's the money at the moment and i've done all the decorating. It's the fact that we don't want to waste money if there's a cheaper way round it;)0 -
Spending the money to get your name put on the deeds will not be a waste of money!!! You need to think about what the situation would be if the worst should happen to your partner, if you own your home as joint tenants it will automatically pass to whoever outlives the other. I had lived with my partner for 34 years, our home had at one time been 2 houses, which we knocked through into one, but the deeds were never combined. I jointly owned one half of the house and we kept saying we should sort it out so the whole thing was in joint names, like you I had paid in blood, sweat and tears, and had also spent a large amount of money on the refurb, sadly my partner died suddenly before we had sorted it out and it caused a whole lot of problems. Get it done for your own oeace of mind.0

Thank you rosyw.
Although we've both got wills leaving everything to each other, Yeah your right it would give me peace of mind.

I was quoted £260 yesterday to get me added to the mortgage/deeds if I couldn't get my ID in time for our purchase.0

We had also made wills leaving everything to each other, or the kids if we were both killed in car acrash or similar. The problems arise if it is in one name only and that partner dies and has debts, which is what happened in my case. The debts, although not huge, meant that I HAD to sell up to pay them, whereas if the whole property had been jointly owned it wouldn't have been part of his estate in the first place, so had I wished to keep it I could have. You never know what's around the corner, we all put off things that we shouldn't because we think we can sort it out later, but you need to think of what the situation would be if the worst happened NOW.0

You kind of think your safe if you have a will don't you:(. Must have been hell for you to loose your partner and your home all at the same time. I hope you are now settled in your new home now though. I'm going to get it all sorted over the next couple of week's having heard your story.0
