Transferring money from UK to ROI - Ulster Bank

Options
Hi all,

I have a Natwest and an RBS UK current account (Child & Co private, so not being sold to Santander), also an Ulster Bank ROI account, denominated in Euros.

My question is, what is the simplest (cheapest) way to get money from Natwest/RBS to Ulster Bank? The sort code isn't recognised by the uk online banking for either. Ulster ROI seem to be preferential to it's customers in the sense of not charging for RBS group transactions in the UK, despite technically being forex transactions, but Natwest/RBS seem to have no such arrangement. (the RBS group seem quite odd in being separate between countries, I couldn't use my RBS debit card in an RBS machine in Romania at all).

Any info on this would be much appreciated!

There is no easy way to transfer the money, although Ulsterbank ROI are in the group, they operate independently, even from Ulsterbank Northern Ireland.

You can use your debit card in the UB machines for no charge, but for transfers your going to need a specialist transfer service. I use this one the rates are quite good and the money arrives in 3 days.

Thanks, I feared that may be the case!

I'll take a look at CaxtonFX, I've got their Euro prepaid card, which I can't fault, so may be a good solution.

Just get the IBAN/SWIFT code of your ROI account and set up a transfer from your UK account. They may be charged some fees.

Not that in principle, if you want to transfer from ROI to UK using your UK account's IBAN (just ask for it) you should not pay any fee.

I do have the IBAN etc for the accounts, however Natwest/RBS treat it as an international payment (which I suppose it technically is) despite UB being part of the same group.

I was simply wondering if there was a way around these charges, but the CaxtonFX solution seems ideal, having looked into it. Minimum transfer of £100, but if I'm going somewhere that requires € I doubt I'd need any less than that.
