Landlord replaced some wires in my meter cupboard now usage is 100w when nothing on
I have an energy meter and the landlord came to do a checkup today of house and he replaced some wires in meter cupboard
I noticed after he did it my usage was higher than usual so I turned off items one by one including turning off at mains and with everything off including the fridge my energy meter was showing around 100W usage(95, then down to 94, down to 93)
I left it this way for 5 minutes and turned things back on and its still around 100w higher than usual.
The only other thing I can assume is he has wired me into the communal lights and making me pay for them since theres a large/long bulb outside my flat.
Can simple wiring show an increase of around 100w?

Turn the landing light on and then turn your main switch off on your consumer unit. If the light goes off then the lights is on your supply at which point I would get onto the LL and complain as I suspect its not legal unless he compensates you for it. Also check the monitor to see what that reads at that point.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

These monitors are simply not accurate at low readings, rely on your meter, not the monitor. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Depends where the meter is. The power on/off switch may be located after the meter, in which case turning the supply off will have no effect on any current drawn prior to the box location.
As it's a block of flats, there will probably be one main loop for all flats, then a sub loop for each individual flat, with the meter first inline and then the power box afterwards.0 -

Well I have been checking my meter a few times a day for months and its only been since the new wires were put in that the usage has increased.
What it seems to be mostly is all my devices are showing a small increase, when everything is off it seems to be around 20w now and with everything on about 100-200 more.
But even then the increase seems mostly due to my tv which seems to be using more.0
