ECar - BEWARE of This Insurance Company

They cannot guarantee to do ALL amendements on line.
I would guess that your amendement falls into the category of needing to be referred to an underwritter for some reason.
However not getting back to you within the advertised 4 hours is completely unacceptable.
Have you tried the two normal phone numbers you were given?0 -
It's doesn't make it a bad product necessarily - just you aren't using it correctly.
If you want Phone service, then DO NOT use an on-line only company.
Sorry to disagree but I have dealt with online companies e.g dixons online, play.com, ebay sellers, etc... and dont have any problems with online companies.
Ecar is something diffrent with their constant refusal of insurance and refusing to indeminfy the driver it had insured.
I think the FSA need to stop this company from trading in the UK.
If you cannot get through to them, they have a few diffrent numbers.
The FSA had given me a number which I called on behalf of a friend. Ecar did answer and it was 10p a min, and then transfered to the 090 number.
The other department did say the problem would be sorted in a few days, however a letter was sent stating it will take 8 weeks.
So morel of the story, dont deal with ecar, unless you want a headache.0 -

Personally I've learnt the hard way years ago to only send letters to companies by a minimum of recorded signed for post.
Virtually all companies I have dealt with especially banks and those in the telecoms industry have a habit of "losing" emails and letters.
In fact my current insurance company, Egg, openly admitted to losing letters sent to them.alistair.long wrote: »Ecar is something diffrent with their constant refusal of insurance and refusing to indeminfy the driver it had insured.

1. Put an official complaint to eCar sending your letter it in a way it can be traced
2. Wait 8 weeks for a reply
3. Then send all correspondence to them.
ECar openly admit that contacting them costs £1.02 a minute from a BT line and:However, we do appreciate that some of our customers may wish to speak to one of our advisors. To ensure we continue keeping our premiums competitive, we charge these customers a premium rate to contact us using this method.
None of this is in small print or hidden unlike other insurance companies, so I wouldn't be surprised if the FSA has had a word with them.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Which was if you WANT PHONE SERVICE you should not use on-line companies.
I am personalyl very happy with on-line phone companies, but it's a bit silly to expect a different service if you sign up for one which is "on-line only".
It's a bit like signing up for "paperless billing" and then complaining that you don't get paper statements.
I ahev nothing against on-line companies and use them a lot myself.
They are just not suitable for people that want to deal by phone.
The OP has simply bought an unsuitable product (not necessarily a bad one - although the reports on ecar aren't great).Ecar is something diffrent with their constant refusal of insurance and refusing to indeminfy the driver it had insured.
If they are offering poor service that's an entirely different issue to the internet/phone issue. So morel of the story, dont deal with ecar, unless you want a headache.
As an interesting aside many of my biking mates are very happy with ebike and that includes people that have claimed.
I am NOT an ebike customer so this is not a plug and I have no connection.0 -
Avoid this company at all costs.
The company was started with the premise that 40% of all people lie on their application form and so they cancel 25% of all policies up front charging £75 for the the honour. The next 15% they increase their premiums. They run something called Red Eye which monitors your every move as you fill out the online quote form. If you hesitate on a question or if you go back and change an answer it is all monitored and used against you like you are some kind of lying crook trying to defraud them.
My son does not have a lot of money to spend so after being with Swinton for a year the renewal premium jumped up, so I took out an eBike moped policy for him because it was cheaper. The first thing that eBike asked for after taking out the policy is for proof of drivers license and proof of no claims discount. I asked them what they wanted as proof of no claims discount and that ended up in a circle of over 50 emails, none of which ever answered the question, what they want for proof of no claims. Although I opened the policy and paid for the policy from my account at first they wouldn't correspond with me because I was not the policy holder. Fair enough, data protection and all that, but they dragged the process out so long without ever resolving my queries that they finally cancelled the policy and charged my son £75. The kicker is I am sure all insurance data is available to them online so they could have looked it up themselves.
Now my son has no insurance and they demanded the certificate back before they would refund any money due for the up front £192 payment. So I sent the certificate back and then they claimed it was not the original but a photocopy and refused to refund my son until I sent in the original. A freeking joke. I told them in no uncertain terms that I returned the certificate that they sent my son, and that we don't even own a photocopier, but now they are demanding that if we want the refund then we have to fill out a form saying I have lost the original certificate. Grrrrr!!! And the refund takes 30 days. 30 freakin days to get his money back less the £75. My blood is boiling.
And to top it all off, now if my son goes to another insurance company to insure his bike, he has to declare that he has had a policy cancelled which will push up his premiums.
So the moral of this story is, if it sounds to good to be true it definitely is. Save yourself the agro and pay a little more for a real company with real humans who answer the phone without charging you £1.02 per minute to be left on hold.
Don't give your money to a company that assumes you are a liar before you even take out a policy with them. And God knows what kind of headache there might have been if he ever did have to make a claim. That doesn't even bear thinking about.
I am sure there must be some kind of law that says they have to warn you up front that they are monitoring your every movement when you fill out a form. That is tantamount to spying on you. Isn't it? Hell, even the police have to warn you if you are approaching a speed camera! It must be illegal.0 -

First go on royal mail track and trace website and put in the details of your recorded delivery slip.
Get the details of when it was delivered to their offices and if you can decipher the signature then get the name of the person who signed. Then send them an email enclosing this information and inform them if they don't stop harassing you, you will report them to the FSA as they clearly have administration problems and make a complaint with the FOS for the distress they are causing you.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I wouldn't go to Saga either (read my problem) unless you have kept copies of all your previous insurer's proof of NCD.0
