Thank you very much I think I may just do that.

I have bent over backwards to prove my case everything is above board they have the contract. My last payment to NW was paid in Jan 2009 for 2 months worth of water so they have everything I owe them.

Its not my fault no one lived in that house from Feb to June.

I will write to them and outline everything that I have already done, then tell them to shove it :D politely of course.

I'd personally go one step further. Ring the water company and tell them you're being harrassed for a debt you dont owe. Ask the CSO for a copy of the acknowledgement letter saying that you have made full payment to such and such a date when you closed the account. When I exited a tenancy a few years ago, I got all utilities to respond in writing to the final bill payment saying that it was satisfied. There must be something on the system that says you paid and they are done with you. If you cant get that, start working up the chain of monkeys until you get the organ grinder and then raise it with him/her that you are being harrassed by this bunch of twits over your debt and that unless you receive a written acknowledgement that the debt is settled with an appology, you're going to take it further. How far you take it is up to you, but a few judicious threats here and there often work wonders where the quiet person gets walked all over.

I went one step further and rang the water company. She rang the debt collectors immediately I told her the story as apparently they were breaking protocol and my tenancy agreement was more than enough.

She rang me back and told me she had taken the account from them and was dealing with it themselves and it seems they may even owe me money.

They will write to me with the closed account details.

    Complete turn around.

    Thanks for all your help.

So it damn well should have been. That was way out of line from the debt collectors.

Excellent outcome. Now keep on it and make sure you get that final letter just in case this crops up again. Let us know how you do.:T

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Just thought I would update and finish off this thread I made.

It turns out Northumbria water owe me £24.85 :D so a good result and at least I no longer have to deal with the debt collectors.

    Thanks for all help.
