hotel cancelled by airline

Options
Folks
In Jan i booked a all inclusive hotel in majorca with flights included for the sum of £1440 which was for 2 adults and 2 kids . With only two weeks to go till my holiday i have been emailed by the airline to say that my hotel is no longer avaiable but they have offered another hotel in its place . What a dump they have offered and it has no kids pool . The hotel i had booked had four outdoor pools with a indoor pool and a kids playground and kids pool . It was perfect now i expected to accept a dump of a hotel with one small pool l;ocated on a hillside with reviews telling me it would suit more mature adults . Ive contacted the airline and they keep fobbing me off saying i can have a refund . I dont want a refund as it would cost me twice the price to book what i had already booked . What rights would i have in this case , it would seem that booking that bargain holiday in jan mighty mean you get the holiday of your choice.
any advise would be great

I would accept the refund. They have shown their hand by offering you a sub standard replacement and I don't believe any amount of arguing with them will make them take a different view.

You thought you were getting a bargain but it's fallen through now so I would let it go and look to see if you can afford something elsewhere. If you can't get anything at a similar price it just confirms that it was too good to be true. Very frustrating and annoying I know, but take your money back from them and give it to a company that values your custom.
  • Check if they are still selling the holiday. It may be that they sold it to someone who paid more.

If you paid by credit card, claim from the cc company for loss of a bargain as they are jointly liable.

If not sue the airline for the extra costs in rebooking the holiday you originally booked with someone else.

Perhaps they sold it too cheaply. Or when they sold it to you they didn't actually make a firm reservation with the hotel at an agreed price, and have now been charged more (or hotel is fully booked) so they've bailed out.

I could suggest going to ABTA but I had a similar experience and got absolutely nowhere with them.

Good luck getting it sorted. What a blow especially with 2 children.
