can i pay mortgage with credit card to earn cashback?

i have a capital one credit card which gives 1% cashback . i pay my credit card off in full each month. Is there anything to stop me paying my mortgage on my credit card so i earn 1% back from it ?
i was thinking of doing this for all bills - council tax , gas etc -
anyone currently doing this ?
thanks

Well your main problem is that your lender probably doesn't accept it as a form of payment.

Some councils may accept it but you need to check with your own coumcil.
You get discounts with gas 7 electricity for paying by direct debit so check that out - it may well be more than your cashback.

But generally your idea is flawed because in most cases it's not an accepted form of payment, although there will be exceptions to that.
  • thanks so much - i thought it was worth asking - shame as it would be such a nice little earner - will have to think harder !:)

yep.. council tax by card, and ever now and then bung some at gas/elec - but still pay by DD for discounts.

Mortgae - can't see many accepting a credit card ( withouit charging a big fee) apart from arrears collection dept

  • Some councils add a % on for paying by Credit Card (Check the small print) and this could outweigh the Cashback incentives.

Same as above, a lot of companies charge credit card fees, often at 2% or higher.

Scottish power will give a 5% (?) discount if you pay for a year or more in advance but only from their standard tariff.
