Is Cheapest possible emulsion okay for Mist coat?

Is emulsion the right stuff, or do i need Silk/Vinyl

And if so do i still need to water it down?

Thinking of something like B&Q or Wickes cheapy own brand.

Does it need to go on with a brush, or can i roller it?

Again are cheap brushes or rollers okay for a mist coat.

Builder has told me to spend £20 on a quality lambs wool roller for putting paint on, but i forgot to ask about the mist coat!

I have so much decorating to do, but i've never really done much right from scratch.
Most of my mates are saying "you must be so pleased to finally be getting to the decorating stage!
But I'm not, i have an entire house to prep/paint/carpet with £2300
And i'm not the "interior designer type!" And I've got to fit it all in around a full time job......:(

Any paint is OK for miss coat but I would use matt watered down 50%. The quality roller must be well washed out after use so you can use it for the main coats.

    Not necessarily true.

A cheap Value brand is ok, but water it down some more.

However, DO NOT use Vinyl silk the additive that makes it 'silk' is a plasticiser which does not mix well with water. You can only use Vinyl Matt for a mist coat.

Apply with a cheap roller. I would stay away from cheap brushes as they tend to loose hal the bristles and you spend most of the time picking bristles out of the paint and off the walls.

I thought that was why it was watered down, to make it thin?

Me too; Used this when we painted after having our whole house re-plastered. It's good stuff.
