First you get agreement from the Landlord that it can be done and that his solicitor is on board to do this. Then you send the money to the solicitor [NOT to the Landlord] accompanied by YOUR letter. It really is much simpler - and you get what YOU want if you write the letter and send the money. The letter you would get from a solicitor will never say quite what you want it to say, so it is not worth the bother of trying to get a letter on their headed paper.

Sorry. Excuse me if I seem a bit thick, but I don't get it.

I assume you mean that I write the terms and conditions in the letter (as if they had written it) asking them to sign it. In a sense that may be okay, but without their letterhead it is no proof that they wrote the letter - even with their signature (which could be denied as their signature). My letter would not be a sound legal document which proves they are holding my money. I still need something more legal than that which includes a receipt for the money.

Another thought. How can I be certain that the Solicitor does not disappear with my money seeings it is so large?

If you send them a letter with your conditions [it is so short that this should not be a problem] and get a reciept, keeping a copy of your letter, that will be enough. It does not matter that they did not write it. It is your money you would send so your stipulation of conditions is valid. Of course, they could get hung up if you don't use a letter head, but they won't. Letter head is substantially irrelevant.
