Quick question- How many nappies will we need?

Hi all,
I am expecting a baby on the 18th December. At the moment I seem to be getting loads of vouchers for money off nappies. using them when the nappies are on offer for example today huggies newborn size 2 ( 3-6kg or 7-13lb) reduced in boots from £5.97 to £3.97 as they were £2 off so used a voucher for £1 off and got the pack of size 2 nappies with 35 inside for £2.97
I have been doing this for a while just grabbing them when they are reduced/on offer and using the coupons
what i was wondering is if my baby is 8lb ish when it is born about how many of each size will i need?
I know it will only be a gues but if someone has a little on they may be able to give me a clue.
Also has anyone ever taken nappies back and exchanged for a bigger size? (without a reciept?) if so it which stores
Thanks for your time :-)

Congratulations on your new addition to be! With my 4 they all varied as to how much nappies they went through so I'd hate to estimate for you but my ones were
I have had a baby use minimal nappies say 10ish a day when very small to having 2 babies that would have up to 20 nappy changes a day (2 had feeding issues though which is why!) If they are breastfed they will need less and if they are ill they'd need a lot more!
I bought 2 packs of newborn for each of mine and that was fine and then I would think they'd have 3-4 packs of next size up but they really only used size 3/4 nappies for any length of time so if you were to stock up go for 3/4 but don't stock up horrendously as you've somewhere to store them and they can deteriorate over timeThere is always coupons/baby events to stock up once baby is a bit older, Good Luck!
Wife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

I wouldn't overbuy in anyone size or brand- we're onto baby #5 here and we've had no hard fast rule on how long they stay in a set size (#5 is still in size 3 at age 13 months, #2 was in size 5 before he turned 1 and he was over 2lb lighter than her born!) depending on shape/chubbiness of your baby different brands will fit better than others, depending on if they are a heavier night time piddler will depend on which brands are better for night time- so many variants!
I wouldn't over buy in any size, there are nearly always offers on nappies somewhere- BOGOFs or 2 for X price type deals year round, add into that baby events several times a year (when you'll have a better idea of how your baby grows) to take advantage of.
All 5 of my babies have arrived in week 38-39 and yet nearly 3lb in different from lightest to heaviest, my sister is the exact same build/weight as me and her son was nearly 4lb heavier than my lightest- really is hard to guess!:j BSC #101 :j0 -

Where I am Boots, Tesco and Asda all exchange nappies without a receipt.
Therefore if you have some of these stores, I wouldn't worry about how many of each size nappy you need. You won't know the weight of your baby til it comes out (obviously) so might need the tiny baby ones or skip straight to size 2/3, you just don't know. Just buy whatever you have coupons for and exchange them if needed, this is what I did.
Then there's the fact the Huggies/Pampers might not fit your little one's bottom properly so even though you have enough of the correct size, the shape might not agree with the baby, meaning all sorts of horrible leakage! My first seemed to fit Pampers better, this one fits Huggies better.0 -
My DD is just over 3 weeks (6.6lbs born) and is still in size 1 and im sure she will be for some time. Shes needing 8ish changes a day at the moment. I dont know if that helps at all and yes Boots were very good at swapping nappies of the wrong size. When I got mine I asked them to put 'sold by Boots' stickers on the packs and that made them know they were from them. Theres a link of the grab it quick board for a free Emma Diary pack that may also be of interest to you. Good luck xxxMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!

Its hard to say as baby could be small or bigger then expected.
I bought a few newborn then loads of the next size up - STILL run out!
My babies were 6lb 11 BUT tiny - they had to wear tiny baby clothes and didnt fit in newborn/0-3m clothing until they were 4-6months!
Some nappies dont agree with some babies, my dd didnt get on with pampers at all BUT my ds was fine.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

It's a while since mine were babies so can't remember exactly how many we got through but wouldn't call 10 minimal!0 -
I probably already have way to many. Although I have added uip what i have spent and i have spend £14.30 in total. for that price i am happy to donate any that done fit to someone else or a hospital or something.
I already have:
5 packs of huggies size 1 (27 in a packet) and another 28 loose from free samples etc these fit 2-5 kg or 4-11 lb
3 packs of huggies size 2 (35 in a packet) fit 3-6 kg or 7-11lb
2 packs of huggies size 3 (31 in a packet) fir 4-9 kg or 9-20lb
1 pack of pampers newborn size 3 (31 in a packet) fit 4-7kg or 9-15lb
2 packs of huggies size 3
4 packets of pampers size 3 (48 in packet) fit 4-9 kg or 9-20 lb
Storing them is not a problem as they are all ontop my wardrobe.
Glad swapping them is an option i will ask them to pop a bit of tape stating where they were bought.
Thanks for all the advice and help guys its really appricated:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heartProven to be a little fighter and battling on with her heart condition :j

My little girl is 7 months old. She was 8 lb 4 oz. We used 8 packs of 27 Huggies size 1 (were 50p in the Newborn starter kit in the Asda baby event using the coupon inside. She was in size 2 Pampers until she was 15 weeks I think. She used at least 8 per day until then. She was in size 3 for about 3 months and is now in size 4. She is bigger than average.
So until 6 months we used:
216 size 1
672 size 2 (at least)
500 size 3 (approx)
I bought all on offer and with coupons when I was pregnant (and still have 8 jumbo boxes of size 4 in the wardrobe)0 -
oh thanks Cl that makes me feel a bit better. I got the asda newborn boxes in the baby event to bargain!:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heart

Mine was 6lb 14 and we used 4 packs of size 1, 2 and maybe 6 size 3 she has been in size 4/4+ a bit longer but in size 5 now at 10 months..
the problem is huggies shape varies wildly to pampers so while 1 may leak the other may not.. all mine pooped straight out of huggies.. and the last one pooped straight up the back of pampers.. Boots were the only ones we have found to contain her explosions!!
We used about 8 a day when she was new.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
