:) Lots of great ideas here already and I'm definately in agreement with the poster who says make a feature of it, it really works.

One option that exists with a patterned fabric, assuming you can find a spare bit of it on a pocket lining/ hem/ back of the neck bit (the proper name escapes me, that semi-circular bit of facing on the inside of the garment up to the neckine).

You could cut out one of the repeats of the pattern and fit it over the hole, assuming things match, and surface stitch it down and called it applique.:rotfl:

;) Back in the day when I was a costume designer, if there was a difference between the sketch and the finished costume, we'd blithely tell whomever noticed that it was a "design feature".

Love it! :rotfl:Just when I think there can't possibly be any more fab ideas! I forgot there's usually a spare bit of fabric in the neck area, I'll have a look when I get home. Cheers!

Hi all, I fixed the dress! :j

There was plenty of spare fabric under the bust hem so I was planning on taking some of that to patch it, and if that still looked bad I was going to put a strip of similar fabric down the front and add some buttons.

As I was getting my sewing stuff together my OH of all people pointed out the dress has some rough pleats in it... and folded another pleat into it to hide the hole :D So all I had to do was sew up the hole, fold the fabric over and add another few stitches at the top to hold it in place. You'd never know it was ever there!

I was so looking forward to doing something a bit creative too but can't argue with results :o

Thanks again for all your help and I really hope these suggestions help other people in future too
