Please advise- dvd recorder & ntl

Hi
I bought a dvd recorder( not HDD) and looked at the instruction manual yesterday- it looks very complicated!

I have ntl, and am wondering, can i record an ntl channel while watching another?
Do i need a dual recorder to do this?
Should i have got one with freeview?
Should i have got one with epg ?
I'm not sure whether to return this one and get anotherone ( a Humax one i saw on Which website)

I would love to be able to record films at christmas for the kids, and dont have a video recorder, and the reception through AV1 isn't good, so Tv is always on AV2 ntl box mode.
Advice in time to sort this before sunday would be great!
Thank you very much.

you would need an ntl box that has twin tuners and an inbuilt hard drive, a bit like sky plus ( im not even sure if ntl do that type of box)

Not yet.. not in my area anyway.
So a twin tuner in a normal dvd recorder wouldn't do the job?
