WHSmith!

Options
Not directly involving myself but something I witnessed yesterday.

Picking up a friend from the airport, went into WHSmith for a drink, standing next to a pregnant lady at the fridge, exchanged plesantries when we both went for the same bottle of juice.

She took another bottle and walked towards the til, I was behind her by about 5 steps but not really concentrating. Next thing, she's on the floor in pain.

She's tripped on a shelf left in the middle of the floor. A shop assistant came past as just said 'you ok?', she said she was but appeared to be in pain, he walked off and I asked him if he had an accident book or the manager was about, the reply was no to both and he went to chat to a colleague. I and the lady in question asked him to move the shelf and he said 'yeah', I helped her up and she went off and I didn't see her again although she did thank me profusely before she left.

Just wondering really, should I ring the store to complain or something? I don't know, it doesn't seem right that that can happen and it isn't noted down.

I do hope she is OK though......

    Definitely.

Ring the shop in question and complain. If you get any backchat or, indeed, anything other than a very concerned and contrite response write to W.H.Smith's head office.

A fall for a pregnant women can result in the loss of the baby. I know this for a fact. :(

The lying little gimp, they'll definately have an accident book somewhere and even if the manager isn't in then there will be somebody deputising in their absence who should be able to deal with this.

I'm amazed it wasn't given more attention at the time, sounds like it was treated as a bit of a non issue which is very surprising.

You could ring and complain but after the fact it won't carry much weight I shouldn't have thought.

Possibly due the shelf being left on the floor by the same employee who stated that there wasn't an accident book or manager available and they thought they might end up in the sh**.

oh dear - hun, of course report it, to Head Office! not to the store as the manager will manage to lose the complaint. - but every single employee in that store will deny it happened! unless of course the store has its own cctv - in your report can you explain which section you were in and the time it happened. (most stores have cctv now and there shouldnt be any 'blind spots') head office can then request the cctv and see the incident then rewind to see which twit left shelving on the floor. That twit should then recieve a written warning - or it may be store policy to suspend or dismiss.
