Game returns/exchanges

A relation bought my son an xbox 360 game for Christmas, I let him open it to make sure he hasn't already got it, which he has. The game had a sticky seal on which if opened or broken would make the game invalid for refund or exchange.
I went to my local Game and explained the situation, I was told without a receipt I could not have a refund/exchange, the Game there was £29.99. I showed them the Game seal which was intact and they told me the only thing I could do was trade it in for £14, I refused and left the shop.
I find this a total rip off, as who receives a receipt with their present. Game are then taking back a brand new game and making £15.99 profit on it. The security seal has Game wrote on it so they know it wasn't bought elsewhere.

You didn't buy it so legally you can't take it back for a refund or exchange anyway, it's only the person who buys it. Most shops will exchange with a receipt but if you already told them you got it as a gift there's not much you can do. Maybe send it back to relative and see if they can change it?0

Or ring them and ask if they would give you credit note or vouchers for 29.99.
Lots of shops forget to tell you this, and you have to ask.
Then you could go back at a later date.Let us know how you get on.However if the issue is that the game has gone down in price i could understand why they wouldnt give you the higher amount. I have twice recently taken stuff back that my OH has lost the receieipt for,and have been turned down, but when i ask can i have a credit not the answer is yes (tk maxx and focus diy).I know that game can be a bit tricky though, let us know how you get on.0 -
Wait till after xmas, most stores have a gift exchange policy0

the seal doesnt exactley prove that the game was from GAME, i understand what your saying re who receives a receipt with their game, id ask the person who gave your son the game to exchange it for one your son hasnt gotNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
You may be able to prove you bought it from game, but can you prove when you bought it and at what price? If not, then Game are within their rights to refuse a refund. Also, as pointed out, you have no contract with them, so they don't even have to do anything at all, regardless of what proof you have. You need to get the receipt or some other proof.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0

theres 2 options you can do:
A kindly ask for the receipt
or
B politley ask th person who gave your son the game to exchange it
or
C ebay it but not sure how much you wouldd get for itNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
