Bank of Scotland - Can't pay online?

I've just tried to pay my credit card bill online (as I have done for the past 2 - 3 years) and it seems like this service is now unavailable unless you have a BOS current account too.
I had to resort to going through a long drawn out automated telephone call to pay.
Why the changes? I don't recall being informed that online payments were no longer accepted from other accounts. It all came as a bit of a shock!

Hi,
I noticed this option disappeared too.
However they do have their bank details on that page so you can make a bank transfer.
With internet banking it has negated the need for me to pay via the BoS website anyway0 -
Same with the HSBC. I have to go into a branch to pay my bill as you can't pay online without a current account.0

It's been phased out and if you google 'halifax online credit card change' there are a number of posts on this topic. I seem to remember getting a letter before Christmas telling me that these changes were coming. So many glitches, so little time...0

What's the joined up thinking about not being able to pay without having a current account? I don't have a BOS branch within 60 miles of my house so calling in to pay is out of the question. I probably had a letter too Dave - guess it serves me right in not reading all of the gunk that usually accompanies my bill!
Are there any CC companies that haven't changed over to this method? I'll need to rip up my BOS card and find a new one - I'm not going through this palaver every month! I suppose I could get a CC from my current account bank but I don't like all my eggs in one basket so to speak.0 -
Don't despair, there are still a number of other ways you can pay.
Most firms still print a bank giro slip on the bottom of the statement which you can take to your own bank. This is free and so long as you allow enough time to pay this is fine.
You could set up a Direct Debit for the min payment or the full balance
Or you could send the payment through internet banking using the details on the back of the statements. Again, you need to allow enough time for your payment to get there.
It's a shame that this feature is no longer available for BOS, but these features do come and go within credit card firms. So many glitches, so little time...0 -
Thanks Dave - I'm probably just being a moaner. It all boils down to the older I get, the less change I like :-(0
-
The feature is another victim of Lloyds internet functionality becoming the standard for BoS and Halifax.
All in the name of progress ...0 -
... if only it was 'progress'!
Doesn't it get your goat when you're told by various companies, 'In order to improve our service to you we have changed....'.
No - to improve your service to me leave things alone and stop changing everything that I initially joined your company for'!0
