Tenancy Deposit Scheme Query - Urgent - Confused!

Hello!

I've input the code into the TDS website. This box pops up
Your agent is no longer a member of the Scheme and is making other arrangements for the protection of your deposit. Please contact your agent directly to establish your current position.
But then it brings up details of the tenancy deposit.

Does this mean that the agent has taken the money out? What should we do now? Tenancy ended last Tuesday, 22nd June.

The letting agent have changed names, might this have anything to do with it?

Also: It says this at the bottom:

Beginning on
22-05-2009
Ending After
21-11-2009
has the associated tenancy deposit of
£ 595.00
protected by The Dispute Service Limited

Hmmm, rang the agent and they said 'Oh yes, we have moved to mydeposits'

    ..............Why were we not informed?

Especially as according to the mydeposits website, we should have had to sign something!
mydeposits produces a deposit protection certificate to confirm that your deposit is protected and sends it to your landlord.
Your landlord must sign the certificate and ask you to countersign it.
You should receive a copy of the certificate and the mydeposits Information for Tenants leaflet within 14 days.

    *Bump*

What does this mean for us as tenants? Nothing?

Sounds like you need to speak to the agents again and ask about the certificate.

I think maybe your Agent moved to My Deposits from x date meaning that they still have some old deposits from previous rentals with the original scheme. Not expert but I would have thought your money is safe there as I understand that it can only be released with the agreeent with the tenant and landlord (or tyhe agent in this case).

I found exactly the same thing out yesterday, the letting agents had moved the deposit from TDS to mydeposits, and I hadn't heard a peep about it. I only found out where it was when (as someone suggested here) I check the mydeposits site to see if it was there.

It doesn't mean much if you get your full deposit back. If there's a dispute (as is looking likely for me!) then I think it means you'll be raising it with mydeposits.

Just write to the landlord with a copy to the agent asking for confirmation of the switch, and details of the scheme currently being used, the appropriate scheme reference number, the deposit amount etc.

When they respons, double-check direct with the scheme.

    Then you can relax.

We've had the same problem, and after checking mydeposits.co.uk it was there, still pretty pieved that we didnt get told, especially as we're in the middle of a dispute. Any success stories with disputes?!
