Travel Insurance for Under 18

Hi
My son is going on his first holday without the family. He is going with some friends who are all just 18. My son wont be 18 until after the holiday. I am having trouble finding a company that will insure an under 18 for single trip travel insurance. I have come across one or two companies online but I have never heard of them. I just wondered if anyone here has found a similiar policy that they would recommend.
Thanks

Try STA travel - they're a specialist student travel agent, been around ages, I've used them loads of times for flights etc, though not in recent years. They're bound to do insurance for under 18's.0 -
Thomas cook insure under 18s on their own policy, not the cheapest around but they do it.0

www.direct-travel.co.uk cover minors on payment of the adult premium.0

The Post Office covers under 18's at half of the adult premium.0

why not insure him as a non dependant child with one of the other passengers who are over 18. There doesn't have to be any family tie involved in most cases, however please make sure it's as a non dependant child, as opposed to a dependant child.

Agree with post office
I went my first holiday without my parents at 16 and used Post Office, as far as I remember it was cheap as chips. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Just watch out for exclusions with the cheap policies - a pretty nasty one is "under the influence of alcohol", so if you trip, get run over, get pickpocketed etc after you've had a few drinks you might not be covered.
Obviously as the OPs son is under 18 he won't be drinking

Thanks to everyone
I have checked out all your suggestions and the easiest and cheapest option works out with the post office and there doesnt seem to be any nasty exclusions but will read all the small print before we buy, although as Zagfles states as he is under 18 he wont be drinking

another vote for the post office from me
we have free travel insurance, have used the Post Office travel insurance for the last 2/3 years for our daughter (she's not covered on our free policy) cheapest and no problems0
