Hi, I'm actually just checking for a friend of mine. She successfully claimed for bank charges against Barclays who made her an offer which she accepted. A few weeks later she got a letter informing her that they were closing her account! Can they do this?

If the reason for closure is a valid commercial reason then yes they can. They can't use bank charges reclaim as a reason but they can use any other valid reason.

A bank can decline to provide banking facilities for any customer at their own discretion.

Not correct - As DunstonH says, they cannot do it in retaliation for a complaint.

So you can make a further complaint of retaliation.

They would not normally reopen the account but if upheld you might get a modest amount for distress and inconvenience.
