excessive fees on credit and debit cards when flying

Conrad Clifford, CEO of The Monarch Group commented "There is no justification for charging excessive fees on credit and debit cards. We had already taken the decision to cancel debit card fees some time ago following an intensive six month review. Our customers expect an up front and transparent pricing structure from their airline and it’s good to see that in light of this important decision, other airlines will now have to follow our lead. Let us hope they do so without any hand wringing or prevarication.”

Does this mean we can reclaim charges incurred on flights booked and due to fly over the summer???? If so what is the best way to go about it. These charges really increase the cost of your holiday!

    No.

You can complain to your airline and see if they will refund them but I wouldnt hold your breath. You are more likely going to have to wait until they are banned and then it will be a line in the sand with no reclaims on those paid before that change.

  • I did email the airline and yes you were correct, they won't consider any refunds as the terms and conditions at the time of booking were to charge for debit card payments.
The new terms have come in with effect from 1st June 2011.
