Voluntary redundancy

I've just taken voluntary redundancy to avoid relocation.
I'm working my notice period and have been madly applying for jobs with no success.
As i have chosen to leave work will i be able to claim benefits as soon as i leave work?

This was my question as well, as I've just taken VR. Apparently, voluntary and compulsory redundancy are treated the same, so we should be ok to apply for benefits.
Out of interest, what kind of job did you do? Have you thought about registering with an agency to do temp work until you find something permanent?0 -

They won't pay the first 3 days of your claim. They call it a 'waiting' period. No idea why. It is therefore a good idea to submit a claim at least 3 days before your last day of service. You can apply for job seekers allowance online at:

They then phone you up and you have an interview.0 -

It doesn't work like that. The waiting period is the first three days of unemployment - not three days after you make a claim. It is because it is consdiered that you will have had a wage that can "tide you over" on the off chance that you get a new job straight away. The rule has been in place for as long as I can recall - and that's a long time, and is a hangover from the days when people could loose a job one day and be in a new one the next.0 -
