Options
Hi,
Another question......son has an old fujitsu laptop on which windows stopped booting up,the laptop turns on but screen goes blank after a minute and you can only see the cursor, i was wondering if this would be fixable if i took it to a pc shop, and roughly how much it would cost? If anyone has an idea that would be great thanks!

Of course it can be fixed......for a price. How old is your son? I'd say get him to fix it. It'll be a learning experience. Not much can go wrong anyway. Have you tried Safe Mode?

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

If the screen is blank but you can see the cursor, it can be two things:

    1. A virus has infected the files ('drivers') that control the graphics, in which case it can be fixed at a relatively low cost.

    2. The cable that attaches the motherboard to the screen is damaged.

You may be able to confirm if it's the latter by connecting an external monitor to it (provided the laptop has a VGA output. Alternatively moving the screen back and forwards to see if it affects the 'picture'.

Might be a start for you, good luck!

  • He's 14...but he's always playing WOW on mine and i've had enough! He did actually come up with the idea of connecting to our old monitor in the garage and it did exactly the same as it does on the laptop screen...so does this mean it could be quite cheap to fix? Hope so! Thanks for replies.

sounds like a corrupt driver or the resolution has been set to something stupid.. Bang F8 before the Windows screen comes on and see if you can get in on Safe Mode.

if they can see the cursor then it's seeing the OS and the hard drive is working.
