Bargains at Homebase Garden Centre
Picked up a lovely bargain at Homebase today, a selection of plants (6 per tray) for hanging baskets/containers: original price, £7.99, previously reduced to £3.99, today's price £1.50 :j
Ok, they were a touch thirsty, but nature is having a little sprinkle at the moment so they are outside quenching their thirst before I pot them up tomorrow
I recognise perlagoniums and petunias but not sure what the others are. But, I reasoned that I can take cuttings from the perlagoniums and then some of my "bargain" will flourish again next year too.
Have to say, they were the best bargain, other plants were reduced but not quite so substantially. Plus, the Jamie Oliver range of plants, despite being reduced were way OTT in their original pricing anyway, so that even with a reduction, they didn't appeal to the MSE that lurks within me
Would post pix of my haul but have no idea how to do that, sorry.

Wow, that's a good ratio of success! :TYes you can get some great bargains in Homebase. I picked up 8 minature roses for 50p each in late April that were practically dead but with a few green bits... I put them in pots outside and 7 out of out have the 8 have florished and all are blooming!0 -
A few weeks ago I got a very straggly looking mint plant form there bargain section for 15p, 3 weeks later and its really taking of, already nipped a few leaves of it to chew while pottering about lol0

I bought a tray of strawberry plnats in there in April. They were 25 p for the tray, think there were 5 plants in all and all looking pretty sorry for themsleves but worth a try for 25p and they are doing brillinatly now, even have a few strawberries already this year

I bought some of 4 packs of those Jamie Oliver herbs. They were 50p for 6. All different mixtures (they weren't the ones in the packet!)
With the exception of the Rosemary, everything has gone nuts. The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Our local branch have a massive excess of tomoato plants. they have knocked them down to half price, but three weeks laterand nothing further, despite none selling and them getting worse every day.
However, i did pick up a few trays of sweet potatoes that were reduced from £7.99 each to just 20p!!!!!0 -
They must be pretty rubbish at looking after their plants if they can sell so many so cheapI'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

In some ways, it really is down to poor management; on the other hand, it's about premium space and the need to move stock on and out to make room for the next thing.peter_the_piper wrote: »They must be pretty rubbish at looking after their plants if they can sell so many so cheap
Same as supermarkets and their "best before" foodstuffs really.0
