    If for example I have a 5 pin lock , a 6 pin yale lock will still fit in?

    You can replace all 5 pin locks with 6 pin ones.

    As regard to insurance companies, check with your insurance company about the standard of locks that must be fitted to your property. For mortice locks they insist on a lock the meets BS:3621:2007 and for UPVC doors it is EN1303:2005

    As a locksmith I would recommend that you always change the locks when moving into a new home, that way you can be certain of the amount of keys that are about.
