in the mean time try this for me

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop ( or right click on the link above and you "save as" to save it to a location of your choice) and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

if it will not run, disconnect from the internet and then right click on Nortons icon on the bottom right of your screen and shut it down or disable it then try agian

    thats it.....

    all clean :)

I'd download and install crapcleaner from www.ccleaner.com and "run cleaner" now to remove any temp files and other crap that may be hanging around

other wise its safe to use :)

I would possibly change ebay/paypal passwords just in case as your pc was compromised for a while

  • Thanks ever so much chap

What / how is it best to keep it from happening again?

I have downloaded as per another thread of yours the AVG anti-spyware but am unsure if this is constantly running in the background or not?

I have read that nortons is not worth having....what is best to use for anti virus?

    Cheers

Nortons is Ok if you are happy with it and paid for it, maybe look at replacing it with AVG or Avast anti virus when it's up for renewal, replace the firewall with Kerio free personal firewall at the same time :)

    this provides live spyware protection

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en

if you tick the option to automatically remove stuff for you when you install it (use it myself !! )

The avg antispyware will run but not automatically update after 15 days, the microsfot one above will always update

you need to uninstall nortons first from Add/Remove prograsms before installing

    download AVG free from here

    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free

    Kerio free firewall here

    http://www.download.com/Kerio-Personal-Firewall/3000-10435_4-10487067.html

kerio says 30 day trial but is a fully working firewall with free updates, just some extra bits get turned off that you won't need anyway

download both the above, then disconnect from the internet and remove nortons, then install Kerio , connect to the internet and then install AVG so it can update as it installs

    total cost NOTHING !!
