So today, i got a phonecall from this number to my mobile:
0161 939 0436
The man on the end of the phone knew my surname and said "i am phoning from the claims department.."
He had a strong indian accent and was sniggering.
Has anyone else had a call like this?

perfect. i knew it was a scam. im worried they knew my surname though, although it was to my mobile. what a crock of crap. if its coming from uk phone numbers cant they be shut down, or traced?!0

It has been traced - by pipscot. Whether they can be shut down depends on whether what they are doing is illegal. Phoning your mobile is not illegal.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0

I had the same phone call at 11 am today.
I said 'No thanks. Get a life!" then hung up on them.0 -
Had one myself yesterday afternoon.
Told them if they wanted to try their scams, they should at least learn to talk English better. I could hardly understand a word he said.0 -

Sniggering?
Really?
I wouldn't have thought that was a very good way of getting people to fall for your scams. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
As these claims people called from outside the UK, there is nothing you can do (other than blowing a whistle very loudly down the phone to deafen them.Never Knowingly Understood.

Just got TWO calls from that bunch of low lifes, one on our private landline number and another - almost straight afterwards - on our main landline asking to speak to my (17 year old) son by name.
They asked to speak to named people in our house without introducing themselves.
Abruptly, I demanded to know who was calling and what they wanted. I obviously stunned them as they didn't answer for a few seconds. They hesitatingly replied "Claims Advisory Group and we'd like to talk to [my son's name] about loans or debts he has had in the last 10 years."
I lost my rag, I'm ashamed to say.
I shouted at them very loudly and told them he had never had any loans. I also shouted that they were to go away and stop phoning us.
I slammed the phone down.
Hopefully, he's gone deaf.
