I have an advantage gold account too and as im self employed need (or use )the overdraft facility as at times I have a cash flow problem with my business account (also with Natwest) would it be cheaper for me to have an ordinary account and pay for overdraft facilities rather than pay the monthly charges!!0

My account was also upgraded some years ago without them having asked for
my permission. When I asked for it to be changed back to Current Plus, they said it was free for 6 months. I said I /still/ wanted it downgraded (I guess they were hoping during that 6 months I'd forget and let it continue). They were not pleased that I wanted this changed, when I was outraged they hadn't consulted me in the first place!
So there must be many people this is happening to, is my guess.

Hi, We started off with a Gold account many many years ago, this canged to an Advantage Premier Account and recently they have changed the name again to a Nat West Private Banking account. We have been charged £195 a year but every time I try to get the account changed they come up with a string of reasons not to. We never needed the overdraft facility in the past but my husband resigned his job a while ago and as yet has not found another so I am concerned about changing accounts or indeed Banks. We have a hefty sum of money in the account (from a pension pay out) which we need to earn some interest on so we are looking at making changes but when you are not employed they do have a habit of treating you like a leper.0

The reason they keep coming up with a string of reasons not to change the account is because they're milking you for all they're worth!
Dump Nat West.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Maidenover
Whilst I appreciate your point about not wanting to move elsewhere due to your current position - it's your bank account, and quite frankly your choice.
The reason they try to persuade you out of changing is their targets - you probably have a 'private banking account manager' or whatever they're called these days, who has a target for the number of 'premium' customers on his list.
As services go the actual private banking is not bad - you should have a private banking advisor & a direct line to them.
However, you can still be a 'private' bamking customer, i.e. still on his list, but without paying for this packaged account - check if you actually need/use any of the 'benefits included'.
They weeded out a number of premier banking customers in the reshuffle who no longer qualified.
Please don't feel any loyalty to them, if your husband doesn't get another job for a while, or gets a lower paid one, the chances are you're likely at some point to be shuffled off of your private manager's list to a regular account anyway.
If you've got a large chunk of money in there on a standard rate, please please look at other savings options immediately.0
