Overdrawn.....arghhh

In a bit of a panic and not sure if this is the right board.

Joint account holder and gone overdrawn by £7.50. We sent a payment by cheque, took that into account and as we both get paid Fri, thought we were ok. Suddenly about 10mins ago i shouted out to my fiancee that we have a DD coming out today and it would make us overdrawn...

Will we incur fees???

Im thinking we will as my fiancee at the end of November failed to remember he'd paid for work on our boiler by cheque, that made us £86 overdrawn, but i dont think we'll incur fees for that.

(If you hold a Platinum, Premier or Student account we won’t charge you fees the first time you go overdrawn without agreement, as long as you haven’t done so in the previous 12 months)

TSB account info.

Should i ring them and explain??? TSB charges are £30 for going overdrawn and then £35 for not enough money to make the payment. Seems a bit harsh to me for only £7.50....

We haven't been overdrawn in like 3 years...

Barclays tell me now that they will let personal acounts go overdrawn 3 times in any month ( as long as they come back into credit )and not charge the customer . Not sure what anyone else has heard ?

You will probably be charged, but as it's your first time, if you ask nicely, they should refund it.

If they flat refuse, you can up the ante and tell them you will be taking action against them to recover the money because it is an unfair penalty. If they still don't change their mind, start the claim process and you will get it back.
  • Hmmm ok, just rang TSB actually and the guy confirmed we'd be charged £30, when i said anyway it cant happen as we'd not gone overdrawn in 3 years, he said yes, but that we'd have to pop into any branch.

Fingers crossed, going to go see them tomorrow. Bet bank workers have gone overdrawn before...

I have worked for two major high street banks and in both cases was not allowed to go overdrawn unless authorised, otherwise it was a disciplinery matter. Obviously like any person a bank employee can get an overdraft, but they are expected to remain within it.
