Amazing what is available to those involved in the PV business

I've just used their page to look at our house and wasn't at all impressed
    .

Best magnification was way lower than you can get from Google Earth or Google Maps.

Photo showed our house without SPs - so it's at least 2 years out of date.

Following their link got me to a page suggesting that I might like to pay £20 for a copy.

I don't think they are terribly interested in selling one off photos to individuals.

More interested in getting contracts like this one.

Now that the survey results are in the local council has found 6k homes with heated sheds in their garden on a winter's night.

Perhaps they were getting their tomato seeds off to a flying start ?

Just found a BenQ 320W panel black on a white backing with black frame so that should keep her indoors happy. From what i`m told it uses the same sun power cell technology which i will confirm once i have the full spec emailed over to me.

The 12 panel 4K system costs £3400 all in +5% vat!

Interesting about the higher wattage panels. About a year and a half ago I was quoted for eleven 250W panels to give 2.75 kW (roof shape wrong to fit any more in and the 'missing' one because of a stench pipe that they were reluctant to lower). Using 320W panels would make quite a difference.

Surprised none of the solar enthusiasts have contributed in this thread.

Hiya. Please bear with me, as this will be a very messy reply, loads of assumptions!

If 12 panels means 3kWp, then that's a very high price. But hard to suggest 'correct' price as things were turned upside down in Mch by an EU v's China trade war over PV dumping. This was resolved (ish) early Aug, so prices are all over the place. Before the trouble started, you probably would have been aiming for sub £5k for a 3kWp (12*250Wp panels). With several people on here reporting quotes and installs of 4kWp for low £5k prices.

Panels, I don't like talking about panels as there are so, so many companies, and each usually has several types of panels, but a quick check of prices shows Trina solar panels to have 'normal' prices, so nothing apparently special to explain the high quote.

You probably just need to get several more quotes and start to get your head around what you should expect/hope to get.

Often people start a new thread and ask for ideas and suggestions, and even comments on their quotes and progress.

Do you know what potential your house has, how the income will work etc etc? The following FAQ thread might be useful:

    All the best.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • Start with the Mark Group (they install for lots of the major organisations that just sell the concept).
That will give you a base line price and a salesman who will give you a reasonably honest assessment of the pros and cons of your roof and its surroundings.
Then you can decide on what you want to do - I got someone else to cram my roof with panels in time to qualify for the best of the ever falling FiT rates.

People have had similar problems - no refunds, no panels - with another "free solar" outfit called Energy Saving Group (see this thread) which went bust late last year but the directors (James Michael Manley and Steven Dickson aka Steve Dickson) had already started Energy Reduction UK (website here). Lots of involvement here with Trading Standards, Watch Dog, Rip Off Britain, local radio and papers. "Free solar", also called "rent-a-roof", is a good deal for the renters, by all accounts, as they pocket the FITs.
    ..

People thinking of free solar panels, aka 'rent a roof' schemes, may be interested that the limited companies of both Energy Saving Group and Energy Reduction UK are in liquidation. But while Steve Dickson isn't named as a director there's now a company called Vigortas with a Dickson or two involved. Check out https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/64228678#Comment_64228678 ...with lots of links to a court report, LinkedIn, etc

I assume the solar panels now become the property of the liquidator so where does that leave the homeowner?
