    Very strange

The satellite photos are indeed taken from satellites whereas the streetview ones are (as you obviously realise) taken from a large van with a 'dalek' perched on the roof. No correlation between the dates of either. Different shots of same bit of hedge are probably explained by one coming from his drive up the road and the other from his drive back. It all seems a bit random which version is actually used.

The photos you can view 'near here' on the Google websites are usually posted by members of the public rather than Google staff

  • If you've paid for your solar using a credit card or on a credit agreement and it isn't giving you the returns you were expecting then you may be able to claim compensation. go to the website solarclaims.com . Worth a try.

OK folk. I know I've been missing since Januaey and so may be wrong BUT I thought this thread was about rent - a - roof versus buying SP. How did GOOGLE maps get in here?
PS Thank you to the Webmaster for finally returning my weekly email from Martin to me. I've really missed it!

Go back to posts #1918 & #1919 and you'll see that it followed (albeit somewhat loosely) from a discussion as to whether some particular houses had been fitted with SPs and how reliable Google Maps was in establishing that.

May have been slightly OT - but a lot closer to topic than some of the ridiculaous comments we've been having in the thread that was supposed to be about choice of intelligent switches.

....... and the Google discussion followed on from the value hopefully added to the capital price of property by having a FiT contract in place for the next 20 odd years.

So much for the carrot beware of the approaching stick (or iron fist in velvet glove) from application of measures such as:

That is the 2010 standard. We are still waiting for the 2013 revision, perhaps because a lot of 2010+ homes, though meeting the standard on the drawing board don't do so on site. The advice is to keep the PV panels in reserve to correct insulation failures.

    Hi

Prior to having my panels fitted 2 years ago, I spoke with several estate agents who didn't seem aware of the value of panels or of the FiT scheme (not sure how enlightened they are now). Most thought 'no added value but may help sale', one thought 'may even put people off'.

Recently I had my house independently valued by a surveyor, who added £20,000 to the valuation after I had shown her my (detailed) spreadsheet and receipts/bills from FiT payments, leccy bill reduction.

I would suggest getting as much detailed information together as you can regarding FiT payments and bill reductions etc and make sure your chosen agent takes it into account for valuation/pushes it in the sale process.

The actual value will depend on many things, ultimately only you and the buyer will decide it with an actual sale.

    Good luck.

Hopefully a whole lot less trouble getting £1,500 from PV panels than
£4,250 from a rent a room lodger. The latter does not seem to be inflation protected.

I have put my house on the market. The estate agents are very reluctant to add the solar panels to the valuation. I can prove that in the last year my electricity bill has more or less halved and the FIT payments have paid the rest, thats from a 2.5kw system.
How do you go about transferring the FIT when you sell you house. I am currently with BG ?

Check your t's & c's for your contract. All the information should be in there. I know, I've been scrutinising mine over the past few days over a different matter and noticed it in mine. I'm with SSE though. Failing that, ring your FITs bureau, they should be able to help

2.7 If you sell the premises or the generating equipment or if the generating equipment is altered in any way (including any extensions or additions), you must:

    a. tell us straight away; and
    b. provide meter readings on the date of the sale or the date the alterations were made. If you do not provide these meter readings, you may not receive the correct amount of FiT payments.

If the eventual purchaser goes along with the estate agent's view that the FIT contract is worthless, you could always suggest that you keep the future payments. That would make conveyancing a bit trickier as you'd have to retain a lease on the roof and arrange access to the TGM (though you could always swap it for a wireless-readable version).

It's even possible that one of the Rent a Roof companies might consider purchasing a lease on your roof before the sale (but I'd suggest you just get the quote and discuss with purchaser before going ahead).
