Bank confusion

I brought a laptop from Ebuyer end of October, the charger for it broke after having it for a month. I managed to return it, and the refund was authorised on 13th December - last Wednesday.

My bank (hsbc - useless I know!) say its iwth Ebuyer, and Ebuyer are telling me the payments gone, hasn't been bounced back, nothing. I asked Ebuyer last week when the refund was authorised so that I knew when to look out for the money, as well as this I had received an email telling me also, so I know from their end it has definately gone.

I have been passed between the 2 today and I'm sick of waiting on the line, not knowing where I'm standing and wondering where the hell my money is (we're tlaking £450 here).

HSBC said something about raising a BACS request or something, for which I need the account details of Ebuyer, which unsurprisingly, they won't give me. I dont even know what a BACS thingie is and the foreign woman I spoke to on the phone wasn't helpful in explaining what it was.

So, I'm wondering what I can do about this? I'm confuised with what I can do, it seems that I have gone as far as I can go with both parties, although Ebuyer have said that if I provide proof of a bank statement, then they can see it hasn't gone through and that they can authorise another payment. I sent them a screen shot and asked them to hold fire for now incase there's anything we can do in the mean time.

So, please tell me what I can do?

  • Send them a copy of the statement. You can cut out the balance column if you don't want them to see the account balance.
It is Ebuyer's responsibility to refund you (your bank's the piggy in the middle)the most likely outcome is that they have mis-punched a card number when processing the refund and it has been credited to someone else's account.

    Firstly, thanks for the reply.

They have a copy of the statement, theres been no activity since the 12th anyway.

I should have said before they refunded it onto my debit card, which is one of those cards that is made up of my sort code and account number. I cancelled my cards because of security issues - seeing as I had entered the details onto the laptop and dont trust Data Protection Laws and such like. However I asked HSBC if this would affect anything and they said no because its the same account.

So its all Ebuyer fault and not HSBCs? They've said its all gone, theres nothing they can do, its gone fromt heir account and therefore can't cancel the payment... I'm so confused!

If someone else has got it, bloody nice christmas present eh?!

They said it was refunded to where I paid from. They dont have my account number however its within the card number I paid on.

The bank said it would still go through, Ebuyer know about this and have not picked up oin it either.
