Diverting water pipe

I have a pipe from the road that goes across my property where it empties into the main sewer which runs across the end of my garden. The pipe appears to carry water from drains i.e. road run off. If I want to extend the house I will ideally need to move the pipe a meter, close to the boundary. Is this possible? I assume the water company own the pipe.

The water company will more then likely own it and you will need to apply to have it moved (and of course pay for it)
It can be turned down if there is a good enough reason.
Call them and get the ball rolling with an inspection...That will sort out the details and give you an idea if it is an easy move or if it is going to be best to rethink the whole idea.
But yes it is possible.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Thanks. Sounds like it won't be cheap. I do wonder if that was the reason for the buyer before me dropping out i.e. he saw pipes that would interfere with an extension.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Arm and a leg job heaving itself over the horizon - prolly £2k and upwards. Have you asked them if they mind you building over it? Sometimes they will grant permission. You won't get it though if your proposed footings happen to concide with the position of the pipe.

If the pipe takes road run off (surface water run-off) and the road is public highway then the pipe may "belong" to the local highway authority.0
