What are you rights when paying an annual subscription for a service, then being told the service will cease to be available half way through the subscription term?

I guess that would depend on the service, but as a rule you only pay for what you use.0

I belong to a forum were a subscription was brought in so subscribed members would have certain privileges and be able to use parts of the forum non subscribing members could not.
We were notified by the site owner a couple of days ago that after much thought over an extended period of time, at the end of July the forum would no longer be available to any members as it would cease being.
Any help gratefully received.0 -
Presumably you've paid for the annual subscription in advance ? If so I would imagine you'd be entitled to a refund of the remaining subscription.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

It does depend somewhat on why the forum is closing. If the forum is run by a business and that business has entered administration then you might struggle to get any money back0

The owner no longer wants to run it. We were simply told they have been giving it considerable thought to closing it for a long time now. As of the end of July it will no longer be but we're more then welcome to go elsewhere, we just can't use the same name for any new group we start as the company will still be trading under that name.0

How much was the subscription and how many month use have you had?
What did the T&C's say when you took out the subscription?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

You can do what you want with the same name (within reason) unless they have a trademark. If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0
