Dog walking dark winter mornings

I think you should be wary of where you walk in the dark at 5:30am. I don't think you'll find too many dog walkers around at that time. My vote would be on lead on a residential street.
  • I have been walking my gang at 4am for about 5 years now, and never had a problem (also walked at 12pm, 7pm and 10pm)

We live in a quiet area, so rarely bump into anyone at these times (result!)

Just get yourself a reflective coat (you and mutt) a good head torch, and a flashing collar for the mutt (oh, and some good walking boots, gloves hat scarf and a good waterproof coat!) and you will be right as erm, rain!

My boy has a reflective jacket but I do also tend to keep him on an extendable lead if it's late at night as our local park is known for men pairing up IYKWIM and he's a big scarey looking dog even though he's soft as butter so I feel safe with him attached to me.

I do sometimes walk mega early morning and do let him loose then. For some bizarre reason I seem to think the rapists and muggers don't get up early!

My beasts tend to get weekday on lead street walks in the winter - simple because everywhere is usually muddy. Have to say, I love early morning winter walks :D

Thanks to whovever suggested Pets at home. Bought a flashing collar and harness for £5 in the sale both massively reduced! Now she looks like a christmas tree with her flashing LED lights, just needs some tinsel!! DH won't use them too embarrased!! I am now going to get a LED head torch!
I too feel safer walking in the dark in the morning rather than in the evening! Hopefully no-one would be that bothered by some mad (fat) women dressed in many layers with a light on her head and dog flashing like a christmas tree!!!!

I remember the day hubby came home rather the worse for wear from the Derby and took our solid black cocker for his last walk before bed

    Walked twice around the park

The dog hadn't got past the doorstep:rotfl:
