I just had a very near miss with some lightning, which caused my lights to flicker, and killed my internet connection.
Now, my pc didn't restart, but I have found that my router's ethernet ports are no longer working. Does anybody know if there's a way to make them work, as I use ethernet far more than wireless.
I know this is vague, but I'm in a bit of a bind because can only access the internet through my netbook and it's a terrible netbook.

On the PC, open a browser, type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and press enter
The username and password should be admin and password
If that gives you the router homepage, look for reboot the router
Or you could try switching the router off for a minute0 -
Near lightening strike do have the habit of destroying routers/modems etc
the surge down the phone line blows them.
A direct strike and your router will be the least of your worries!0 -
It seems the switch is fine, but the router's ethernet ports are fried. they don't register a connection and i've restarted the router countless times. funny that the adsl port is okay, though, hence why the wifi still works.
I guess i'll have to buy a new router. Bah.0 -
Have you tried using a different ethernet cable? This would prove pretty conclusive if you want to rule out the router's ethernet ports.0

Last strike near me took out the single router port that was connected, but it took port on the motherboard as well. I put a new card in, changed the port connection on the router and it was fine.0
