What an efffing rip off this pair of companies (Devitt and Equity Red Star). Stay well clear !!!!
I used them for motorbike insurance on a 125cc bike while learning for my DAS test. Passed last week and sold the 125 so I could buy a bigger bike.
When I went to cancel the insurance (after 3months of having it). Devitt turn around and say there is a £40 cancellation fee.... then on top of that Equity red star who are the actual insurers charge £30 to cancel as well !!!!!
The thing is the policy it's self only cost me £88
What absolute robbing *****

I assume you can read English - because THAT IS what a court of law would also tell you. There is a legal expression which applies always when you buy goods or a service "Caveat Emptor" which literally means "Let the buyer beware!" You were the buyer and you should have read the information provided and failure to do so is not the responsibility of Equity Red Star or Devitt's or indeed any other insurer who would also charge you cancellation fees.
Incidentally I use Devitts for a motor home insurance, my own car is insured with a different company and if I were to cancel it the charge I would have to pay is £150, so you got off rather cheap.
However read the information and don't blame others for your inability to do so.0 -
ERS only make the charge if the broker is using a cheap scheme. This is what you get when you go dirt cheap.
Most other brokers charge a flat rate cancellation fee.
Cheapest isn't always best as youve found out. ERS are one of the better underwriters too.0 -
