Ive been awarded ( apparently) JSA
Do I get free dentistry with that?
I do need to go desperately, so now would be a good time.
If so what do I need to take to register as getting it paid for me?

Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

as you are getting jsa you will get a health certificate from the governments tax credits people declaring you are on a low income and this allows you free perscriptions, dentisrty work etc if you are under a certain level of income (which you would be it also applies to your family eg wife and kids ,husband etc.). when you go to the dentist you have to show your little certificate as proof you dont pay (it loks like a credit card) but if you dont have one yet they can just tick the box and itll be checked against your ni number and if you dont have to pay fair enough but if you do you would probably get billed.(cant see you having to pay)Bad mother to 2!

You will only automatically qualify for free healthcare if you are claiming income based JSA, and you will only get the card that Miss_Money refers to if you are claiming tax credits. If you are claiming contributions based JSA and on a low income (not always the case!), then you need to apply for help with health costs. You can request a form at http://www.ppa.nhs.uk/ppa/low_income.htm.
Assuming you do qualify for help, you can pay for treatment now and then claim back the costs. The form asks if you wish to claim back any charges.
I've just done the form myself, and have been awarded free healthcare for the next year (irrespective of whether I start earning in the meantime or not - another strange rule!), so if you need any more info just let me know! x
Don't follow the advice just to tick the box and they'll bill you later if need be. This is fraud, and they have prosecuted people in the past for it.Gone ... or have I?0 -
thanks to both of you.
Im on contributions based JSA I think.
I need to go through my papers ( right in the middle of packing up to move house, plus loads of Xmas stuff going on!) and my crown is feeling decidedly painful. Its major work, so ill be looking to get it sorted after Xmas I think.
Cheers again and Ill come back to you

i didnt mean tick the box and if you dont qualify theyll bill you. I meant ring and ask wheather you qualify go through the procedures, and if you dont have your card by the time you go to the dentist, you CAN tick the box as you qualify. Obviously if you dont qualify dont tick the box!!! im sorry i didnt make myself clear about it reading it back it looks odd sorry!
When my last card was late the pharmacist said if i qualified and HAD a card (not nessescerily on me) i could tick it. i was in no way advocating fruad
