Haha Del - Sigiriya! Absolutely not for the faint-hearted! I was half dragged up there by two guides, all the while being overtaken by very young Sri Lankan school children and very old grannies!

The first time round we did Mount Lavinia/Deer Park Hotel (Giritale nr Polonnaruwa)/Mount Lavinia and the Bentota Beach Hotel and last time we stayed privately with friends near Kandy followed by a beachfront guesthouse in Negombo.

Depends when we go next - if it is sooner rather than later we'll do the friends thing again with a beach stay. If it's later or we do that for trip three then trip four will be with your employers (you know how I love my clubcard vouchers!) and I'm thinking 10 nights at the Cinnamon Lodge/Chaaya Village followed by a splurge at the Reef in Wadduwa - have you seen that place???!!!!!

We had planned to do that this year but my health dictated that we needed complete R&R so decided on a 'do nothing' holiday in Mauritius instead. If any of your customers ask about Mauritius I can recommend both of the hotels we stayed at - The Tamassa in Bel Ombre and The Sands Resort and Spa, nr Flic en Flac!

Stumbled on this thread searching for tips on Sri Lanka as me and my future wife are heading there Sept 3rd for part of our Honeymoon. We're staying at Vil Uyana, Chaaya Citadel & Mount Lavinia with a personal driver to take us on excursions. It's good to hear Vil Uyana is a nice place.

Do you have any tips which will not be found in the guidebooks we might benefit from?

I can't wait, we passed our PADI Open Water course last weekend so we can make the most of our stay in the Maldives the final 10 days of our break as well. :D
