Over Bath Shower Screen Advice Needed!

Options
Hi all,

I was wondering if you could offer your thoughts on a problem I have with my bathroom. I had a new suite fitted about five years ago, including a bath shower screen. Thing is, the bath wasn't put in properly, the water has collected in the corner where the screen is, the screen has failed and water has been pouring down the side, blown all the plaster, rotted the skirting so it all needs to be fixed.

A plumber I've been recommended is going to come over and do the remedial work but said the screen I'd bought (B&Q) wasn't really up to scratch and suggested I buy a replacement but not from B&Q, Homebase etc. I've been doing some research and seen a company called Corum and also spoken to a store in my local area who recommended Merlyn. The plumber suggested that rather than get simply a 'swinging' screen, to get one which has a fixed piece and then the swinging part attached, to ensure no leakage.

Anyhow, I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on whether these two makes (or any others?) are any good? There are so many out there and not being that DIY savy means I'm really struggling to know which to go for and what's a reasonable amount to pay!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I agree with the suggestion of having a fixed part and a swinging part. We have a Daryl screen which cost a fortune but is very solid and is excellent quality. Depends on your budget really.

Thanks. I agreed with my plumber - it seemed to make sense - it's just trying to find a good one at a fair price. I hadn't heard of Daryl so will give them a quick google! My budget is around the £250 mark, simply because I have all the re-plastering to do, not to mention the plumbers time re-levelling the bath and fitting new tiles... Oh, the perils of being a homeowner! I've also just had my car written off in an accident, so not exactly feeling flush at the mo ( excuse the pun!), so I'm trying to be sensible with my spending until I can get my reserves back up.

Merlyn and Coram both make good shower units, so I would guess their screens are good too.

Daryl is a good brand as is Manhattan.

I am toying with buying a Manhattan Minimal, as it has a fixed and hinged part and also looks good with 8mm thick glass.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

We got one on ebay a few years ago and it is still fine, half fixed and half hinged. Cost about £60.
